Old Bridge over the Dordogne

Highlight • River

Beautiful relaxing view of the Dordogne! The water is transparent in some places. In summer you will see many canoes.

From the bridge you have a great view over the Dordogne. The campsite next door (Au Soleil d'Oc) rents out canoes, and you can also go into the river here to swim.

Maronne Mill

Highlight • Monument

Nowadays, very few mills are still in operation in their original function, but appear to cyclists along the river as technical-historical monuments of an ancient craft tradition:
The heavy millstones inside were moved solely through human ingenuity and the power of the chestnut water as driving energy, so that, for example, grains could be ground into flour (so-called grain mills) or oil could be pressed from (e.g. olive) fruits (so-called oil mills). .

Argentat

Highlight • Settlement

This superb town, located on the edge of the Dordogne, is worth a stop. It has been known since the Gallic era. The place was strategic and has remained so throughout history. The town controlled the access linking Armorica to the Mediterranean Sea. This situation made it a place where wealth circulated. It was in the 18th and 19th centuries that its economic growth increased thanks to the use of barges, these flat-bottomed boats that could navigate shallow waterways.

The banks of the Dordogne

Highlight • Other

Especially the way from the campsite to get there is nice. It goes partly directly along the Dordogne, where we also bathed. In the ice cold water ;)
The walk takes about 10 minutes.

Cycling is actually not my preference at all. But if you are traveling in France with a WoMo, you cannot do without it.
So I did a few tours too.
This one was clearly the most enjoyable! It went moderately uphill and downhill, 40km is not too much and there are many nice places there.

Showing Translation

Easy bike ride just above the Dordogne. Asphalt road with hardly any traffic (from time to time a tractor or a fly fisherman with his car). The main road runs along the other side of the river. The tour can be continued a few kilometers further to atmospheric Beaulieu.
