Woodlands Mill Ruins

Highlight • Structure

There was a beautiful building along the canal here I think it was a huge flower mill that used the canals to transport it goods.
We took photos from the Mill across the canal.
The arches were taken from within the grounds of the Mill

Cromwell Bottom is regarded as one of the most important wildlife sites in Calderdale. Nestled between the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation, the wetlands, woodlands and meadows provide a variety of habitats for birds, insects, mammals and arachnids. Right next to the Calder Valley Greenway cycle trail, it is well worth parking up to explore.

The vibrant market town of Brighouse is a great base for exploring Calderdale thanks to its pretty riverside setting and excellent transport links. It is situated on the Calder and Hebble Navigation, has a mainline train station and is close to motorway links.

There are some lovely riverside walks to Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve and Elland Park Wood, while closer to the town centre is Wellholme Park and its renowned floral displays.

Ings: low-lying fertile land by a river. In Yorkshire English: "T'watter's gitten ower t'ingses." (double plural)
- The water has got over the ings.
