Oude Kerk Borne

Highlight • Religious Site

As a national monument and as the heart of the protected cityscape, the Oude Kerk is part of Borne's identity. This St. Stephen's or Old Church of Borne was founded in ruins around the year 1000 by the Dominican friars of the monastery. The church in Burgundy or Borne is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1206. This document documents a transaction between the bishop of Utrecht and the monastery whereby the church in Borne became the bishop's property.

Bussemakerhuis Museum

Highlight • Historical Site

The center of Borne (Zuid-Esch, Ennekerdijk, Oude Kerkstraat, Abraham ten Catestraat) has many very old houses, is very worth seeing.
The Bussemakerhuis is a museum, open from 13.30-17.00 Tue-Sun, worth seeing for its architecture and linen processing in Twente. Old weaving equipment, film, original equipment, and a lot of historical (1700-1975), you can in the garden also very nice drink a cup of coffee
Although costs 6 euros (2019), but really worth seeing. bussemakerhuis.nl

Old Synagogue Borne

Highlight • Religious Site

The initiative for the construction came from Salomon Jacob Spanjaard. After years of preparation, the synagogue was opened in January 1843. After the Second World War, the Jewish community in Borne was too small as a result of the Holocaust, so the building lost its function as a synagogue in 1964. However, Bornse City Council decided in 1984 to buy and restore the building. In 1986, the Bornse Synagogue Foundation was established, which governs contemporary activities in the building. Until 2004 the building belonged to the Bussemakerhuis.
