Mont-Dol

Highlight • Summit

From the top of Mont-Dol (65 m), magnificent 360 ° view over the bay of Mont St Michel and the marshes of Dol de Bretagne. In 1872 we found bones of mammoths, rhinos, lions, ... in making it the most important Breton Paleolithic site.

Cancale

Highlight • Other

The city's development was primarily shaped by fishing, seafaring, and oyster farming. As early as the Middle Ages, oysters from Cancale were known beyond the region and later became an important economic sector. The port of La Houle developed into the center of maritime life. Today, Cancale, with its coastal landscape, port facilities, and vibrant oyster tradition, recalls its long history as a fishing and port town.

The Fontaine des Laveuses d’Huîtres (Fountain of the Oyster Washers) is a bronze sculpture in the Place de l'Église Saint-Méen. It was created by sculptor Jean Fréour and inaugurated in 1999 to commemorate the women of Cancale who washed oysters by hand in the early 20th century.
At the moment (as of July 2026), the fountain is not in operation and is nevertheless worth seeing.

Manoir Jacques Cartier

Highlight • Other

The Manoir Jacques Cartier is a 16th-century country house located in the Rothéneuf district of Saint-Malo, in Brittany. It is the only heritage of Jacques Cartier, the discoverer of Canada in 1534. This great explorer of the Renaissance opened to France the North American continent through the Saint-Laurent River. He bought this manor house in 1541, for his third and last journey, and transformed it into a summer residence with a tower and a room overlooking the sea. He died without heir in 1557 and was buried in the cathedral of Saint-Malo. The mansion then became a farm again and only became a museum dedicated to Jacques Cartier in 1984. The museum displays the daily life and travels of the famous explorer, as well as artifacts and documents from that time. The manor is owned by the Conservatoire du littoral and has been registered as a historical monument since 1940.
