Major heritage of Wallonia

This site is classified as a major heritage of Wallonia. Laid out over 300 m in length, along the asphalt road, the Frahan viewpoint is striking due to the scale of the landscape that opens up to the viewer's eyes.

Accessible by road and walks 27-28-29 - GR 16 - VTT 6

Since the disappearance of the campsites and the renovation of the hamlet, the site has regained all its authenticity. An Ardennes house with its awning is listed. The overhead power lines have been put underground, the washhouse has been restored, as has a bus shelter built in Ardennes schist.

One of the campsites, near the 1926 footbridge, has been replaced by a children's farm. Tobacco drying sheds are a reminder of the culture that flourished here for a hundred years, starting in 1852, when Joseph Pierret, a schoolteacher in the neighboring village of Alle, grew his first tobacco plants in his garden.
The view overlooks the Crêtes de Frahan, crossed by the long-distance hiking trail. There you will find a series of rocks with escapes towards the valley, a natural cave and the ruins of the old Montragut castle.
From the viewpoint we can also see on the right the Corbeaux slate quarries, once spread over three floors and which have become a state nature reserve for bats. The woods that we see on the left and right are classified and there is an obligation to maintain native hardwoods, oaks and beeches, maples and ash trees, hornbeams and hazel trees, elms and birches.

This fortified castle dating from the Middle Ages is an essential symbol of Bouillon. From up there, you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the city and the loop of the Semois.

Saints Peter and Paul Church, Bouillon

Highlight • Religious Site

Church in the heart of old Bouillon. The parish church of Bouillon, located in the rue des Augustins, is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. It is a neoclassical building dating from 1848 on the site of the Collège des Augustins, according to the plans of the architect Dumont. The construction is in sandstone, slate, limestone and stone from France and includes a tower, three naves with seven bays, a choir with a straight bay, closed by a blind semicircular apse. The bell tower is square with two floors, bordered by two volute fins. The lower part is pierced with three round oculi containing the dials. Octagonal arrow of slates. Paintings of the entrance reminiscent of the epic of Godefroid de Bouillon. Lateral paintings that evoke passages from the Gospel and the life of Jesus. The openings are semi-circular with projecting transoms and sills. The saddle ridges in slate with hipped roof. In 2017, a new statue of Saint Eloi was placed there, replacing the previous one.

View of Bouillon Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

Bouillon is an old medieval city that has had an extensive military past. The community of the 'Pearl of the Semois' has managed to preserve some buildings and other remains over the centuries.
“Witnesses from the past, the pride of the present”.

On this meander of the Semois, the castle from the 10th century and several buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries have a history and they know how to tell this story through their appearance...
