Description
If you're seeking a truly demanding day out with big rewards, the Teneriffe Falls – Mount Teneriffe loop from Riverpoint is a difficult hiking route that delivers. This 7.8-mile (12.6 km) journey packs in a significant 3708 feet (1130 metres) of elevation gain, requiring around 7 hours and 35 minutes to complete. It's an ideal choice for experienced hikers with very good fitness looking for a strenuous challenge and panoramic views, especially if you appreciate a less crowded alternative to other popular trails.
What to expect on Teneriffe Falls – Mount Teneriffe loop from Riverpoint
The trail begins on wider dirt or logging roads before transitioning into narrower, more rugged paths as you gain elevation. You'll journey through cool, misty forests, eventually reaching the impressive Teneriffe Falls, a 414-foot cascading spectacle. The real test comes on the "Kamikaze Trail" segment, a notoriously steep and rocky ascent that leads to the Mount Teneriffe summit. From the top, you'll be treated to expansive views of the Snoqualmie Valley, surrounding peaks, and even Mount Rainier on clear days. This route is technical in parts, with switchbacks, talus fields, and a final rocky scramble, making it best suited for sure-footed hikers with sturdy shoes.
Planning your visit
This loop is rated difficult for a reason, so come prepared. Bringing hiking poles and a GPS is highly recommended, especially for the Kamikaze Trail where the path can be tricky to follow. The Teneriffe Falls are at their most voluminous in late spring and early summer, making these seasons a great time to visit for the best waterfall views. While the initial sections can be mild, the overall Mount Teneriffe hike difficulty means you should plan for a full day on the trail and carry plenty of water and supplies.
