Pontresina

Highlight • Settlement

Wildly romantic, sunny and sheltered from the wind at 1,800 meters, surrounded by the impressive Bernina massif, the historically grown mountain village enchants upon arrival: the charm of traditional Engadine houses, dignified luxury and a breathtaking mountain world that, in addition to tranquility, offers fine mountain, wellness and Have culinary delights ready. Hiking and biking along striking glacier trains and massifs, romantic mountain lakes, aromatic alpine meadows and forests on perfectly maintained and designated routes.

Climb the 4,049-meter-high Piz Bernina with pimples and crampons. If you prefer to watch the local climbing specialists, the ibex, with a little luck you can do this from Alp Languard.

Because relaxation is part of the excitement, the Bellavita adventure pool and spa, as well as excellent Swiss pine and gourmet restaurants, pamper you. Then a fun concert evening in the Pontresina Congress and Culture Center and the day is perfect. For an unforgettable time and homesickness that only arises at home.

Cascada da Bernina waterfall trail
The Cascada da Bernina waterfall trail
The waterfall trail is a short but extremely worthwhile adventure hike along the Cascada da Bernina. In just 600 meters, it overcomes a total of 85 meters in altitude. This makes the nature all the more magnificent along the Ova da Bernina mountain stream, which rushes down into the valley over several cascades. The entrance is at the Morteratsch RhB station in the direction of the car park.
From three viewing platforms you can watch the torrent make its way through the pristine mountain forest. Sometimes it falls foaming over rocks, sometimes it builds up to form natural whirlpools. On the first viewing platform, a railway viaduct on the Bernina line is at the center. On the other two platforms you can learn exciting things about hydropower and wine transport.

The section from there uphill towards Bernina has been renovated in 2018 and become great. In the upper section there are beautiful, new, (just so) mobile uphill serpentines and in the opposite direction a very nice, new, small (and somewhat stony) flow trail.

History of the Morteratsch Glacier

Highlight • Natural Monument

From the Morteratsch train station there are always columns that show you the retreat of the glacier. At the train station, the glacier used to be in 1870. Here at this point it was already 1970. Ok, but then suddenly our children’s age groups come along. And now it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up even more. Our water depot is constantly decreasing and every year it is not only getting less, it is getting less and less and faster...

Morteratsch Glacier

Definitely plan - to move within the old glacier and experience the oppressive feeling, reinforced by erected signs that reflect the position of the glacier tongue in recent years.
