La Pierre Couvée Menhir

Highlight • Monument

The "Couvée stone", menhir or standing stone, dates from the Neolithic period (age of polished stone: -7000 / -3000). It is a block of Fontainebleau sandstone, two meters high and as wide, stuck in a flood zone of the Yerres valley. This menhir has fixed a legend that is often found for other megaliths.

The caption: “Having learned that her sister AUBIERGE was going to build a chapel, GENEVIEVE wanted to participate in the work. She went to the forest of Fontainebleau, chose a beautiful stone that she placed on her back, and took the way back. Near Courtomer, an angel said to him: "It's no longer worth the effort, the chapel is finished". Geneviève dropped the useless burden which was stuck in the ground. Thus was born the brood stone.
CLASSIFICATION: the menhir, having escaped various threats of destruction for 50 centuries, has been classified as a Historic Monument since January 5, 1971.

Tour d'Arcy

Highlight • Monument

The Arcy tower (or Saint Firmin tower).

Built in 1896 by the actor Léon Noël, it is made up of very diverse elements. The entrance portal is for example that of the Saint-Firmin chapel in Paris (1257).

Courpalay silo

Highlight • Other

A grain silo, from 1937 in reinforced concrete by architect Roger Gilbert with modern architecture.
Transformed into a brewery, it is here that is produced, among other things, the Bière de Brie (to be consumed in moderation)
