Royal Victoria Chapel

Highlight • Historical Site

Part of NCN route 2, this is a pleasant traffic-free section of cycling through Royal Victoria Country Park.

It features a historic chapel perched on the shores of Southampton Water. The Chapel was once at the heart of the Royal Victoria Military Hospital. The hospital building was demolished in 1966 and now only the Chapel remains.

There's a kiosk in the chapel selling a range of hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice creams.

Itchen Bridge

Highlight • Cycleway

Obviously no charge for walking over it. The bridge was built 1974-77 replacing the floating bridges. Some good views over the river Itchen.

Titanic Engineers' Memorial

Highlight • Monument

Dedicated to the 35 engineers of the Titanic, all of whom died when it sunk in 1912. They were employed to keep the ship’s engines, generators and auxiliary machinery operating. Which they did to the very end.
