Three towers guard the basins of the old port. To block access, a chain was once stretched between two of the gates in the evenings.
There are plenty of shops and restaurants in the old town streets.

We really liked the city with what was once the largest French port on the Atlantic coast. La Rochelle has a great maritime flair and is very lively. The old town is also worth seeing. One day is definitely not enough to discover the city. We'll be back one day 👍.
