Caerleon Roman Fortress and Baths

Highlight • Monument

An impressive site. The Roman Baths Museum lies inside the remains of fortress Isca Augusta. The National Roman Legion Museum is also nearby, as is the most complete Roman amphitheatre in the UK.

The baths museum has a covered walkway over part of the remains of the military bath house.

You can also see the cramped rooms where the men slept and stored their weapons – the only Roman legionary barracks still on view in Europe.

Wisteria Flowers on Stone Wall

Highlight • Structure

This was in May after lots of rain, it obviously stood out while I enjoyed my Scotch Egg snack. The ideal food for long bike rides.

Usk Bridge

Highlight • Monument

The old red sandstone bridge was built between 1746 and 1747. It has five arches and was widened in 1836-7, although it might not feel like it if traffic is busy! If you opt for the footpath, please dismount.

Raglan Castle

Highlight • Castle

Raglan Castle is one of the last medieval castles to be built in England and Wales. The still standing ruins have impressively stood the test of time, and a visit is definitely worth it! Entry costs 6.50 for adults and the castle is open all year.

View Over Celtic Manor

Highlight • Viewpoint

Nice view over the Celtic Manor and beyond. Great road, and pretty much deserted all the way from Usk, only appears to be used by locals. Great for cycling with a generally good surface (although a few sections are pot-holed)
