Elgin Cathedral Ruins

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the 1224 built cathedral are only ruins. The two towers have been renovated and are now used as showrooms. From the upper platform you have a nice view over the cathedral and the city.
The entrance fee is quite high at 7.50 GBP. If we had not had the Historic Scotland Explorer Pass, which already included the entrance, we would have saved the visit and looked at the grounds only from the outside. By the way, the Explorer Pass (visitbritainshop.com/germany/historic-scotland-explorer-pass/) is highly recommended if you are planning to visit several historic sites.

Spynie Palace

Highlight • Historical Site

Spynie Palace, also known as Spynie Castle, was the fortified seat of the Bishops of Moray for about 500 years in Spynie, Moray, Scotland. The founding of the palace dates back to the late 12th century. It is situated about 500 m from the location of the first officially settled Cathedral Church of the Diocese of Moray, Holy Trinity Church in present-day Spynie Churchyard. For most of its occupied history, the castle was not described as a palace — this term first appeared in the Registry of Moray in a writ of 1524
