Forst Castle

Highlight • Castle

Vorst Algund Castle
Vorst Castle was built in the 13th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1302. The Lords of Vorst were ministerials in Tyrol. In the 14th century the complex came into the hands of the von Starkenberg family, and in the 16th century it was owned by the von Brandis family. At that time, Vorst Castle was also expanded and renovated in the 19th century. Curious: The minstrel Oswald von Wolkenstein is said to have been held captive by his mistress in the castle in the Middle Ages.
Two residential towers with battlements adorn the building, which is on the road to the Reschen Pass. There is also a chapel and a living quarters that frame the inner courtyard. There is a legend about the castle: Two brothers are said to have played here, but the game turned bloody serious and one of the brothers lost his life in the castle. The two places on the ceiling that were stained with his blood are still marked with crosses. The two knights still sometimes haunt the complex.

In this square, a unique monument was inaugurated in 2009, on the occasion of Hofer's bicentenary: four rocks from the lands that make up historical Tyrol and a map showing their profile, testifying to the common roots of the four regions.
