Two days later, Snoek managed to throw scraps of paper down through an opening in the concrete wall. A city employee in Herborn noticed this and alerted the police. They located the kidnapped man's hiding place and freed him. In 1978, the Münster Regional Court sentenced one of the kidnappers to 13 years in prison.
