As part of the structural inspection of the Schönfeld Unstrut Bridge, the expert determined that the condition of the bridge had deteriorated considerably.
The supporting structure of the timber framework is severely damaged by the weather, the aging of the wood and the decay of the wood. Existing screw connections are loose and can no longer be tightened due to the existing wood rot.
In order to determine exactly how far advanced the damage to the supporting structure is, the city of Artern commissioned an expert to carry out core drilling. Only with this result can the possibly still existing load-bearing capacity of the bridge be checked.
For safety reasons, we have to comply with the expert's recommendation to block the bridge for all traffic immediately.
The Unstrut Bridge Schönfeld will therefore be closed to all traffic from March 3rd, 2022.
