Cemetery in Nusse

Highlight • Religious Site

The cemetery in Nusse is a quiet, natural place of remembrance. Lawn paths, simple grave fields and lots of greenery create an atmosphere that gives mourners space without overwhelming them. In addition to classic choice and row graves, the cemetery offers modern forms such as tree graves, the ornamental apple meadow and a human-animal burial site. This variety shows how traditional commemoration and contemporary needs harmoniously come together. The care is deliberately restrained, so that the cemetery looks like a silent garden in which memory and nature remain connected.

Nusse Village Monument

Highlight • Monument

After the memorial stone, Nusse celebrated its 850th anniversary in 2008. However, the first documentary mention was made in 1194. As a parish it is included in the Ratzeburg tithe register from 1230. From 1370 to 1937 the church village of Nusse was an exclave to the Free and Hanseatic City of Lübeck. During the Second Nordic War, Elector Friedrich Wilhelm of Brandenburg temporarily set up his headquarters in Nusse in 1659; the Lübeck councilor became Friedrich Plönnies, as envoy of the city council, negotiated with him in Nusse about the contributions. In 1747 the place was confirmed as a Lübeck property by a comparison in Hanover.

Where does the name Nut come from?
Nut - nut - nuts?

Yes and no, this connection is not accepted by linguists.
Then the name is derived from the Wendish nusee, and that means nose = headland, headland, because the entire area was a large lake landscape after the ice age. However, in the neighboring Duvensee (Taubensee or Toter See) highly interesting excavations by Dr. Manfred Bokelmann brought to light what had been hidden under a layer of earth for centuries.

Kirche Nusse

Highlight • Religious Site

The clock faces with Roman numerals on the church tower clocks in Nusse have a special feature. The Roman numeral 4 is not represented as IV, but with 4 lines - i.e. IIII. Why not, actually? It's the obvious thing to do. 😉
