Ponte da Ermida

Highlight • Bridge

The origin of Ponte da Ermida possibly dates back to the end of the 15th century. A Royal Road passed through here, which intended to make the connection between the river port of Vila Nova da Rainha, and Caldas da Rainha. It was the route of the royal itineraries and the Court since D. João II, and was also frequently used by D. João V and D. Carlos.

From this 15th-century Royal Road, all that remains is the emblematic Ponte da Ermida, a structured work of art built in dressed stone and its sumptuous Romanesque arch, or round arch.

Due to the total lack of conservation and having to support loads (heavy agricultural machinery) for which it was not designed, it is currently at risk of collapsing, and its passage is even prohibited.

The Caminho da Meia Encosta runs along the southern side of the Serra de Montejunto and is suitable for cycling in both directions, although the east-west route is predominantly uphill. The terrain is quite uneven in some sections and you can expect to find some loose stones.

The views over the southern side of the Serra de Montejunto are superb.

Vale do Furadouro Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Small but quite interesting trail, somewhat technical, surface is mainly stones, some loose others with sharp edges. Descend to a valley, always surmounted, even on sunny days. A place to stop a little and listen the silence. Respect nature and the wild life.

The vegetation is of a typical Mediterranean forest, which includes several species of oaks, holm oaks and arbutus trees.

Recommended use of pants and long sleeve shirts.

Old Forest Ranger House

Highlight • Structure

Along the Caminho da Meia Encosta you will find three old Forest Ranger's Houses. All of them were renovated a few years ago, and then left abandoned. Unfortunately, vandalism took over.

Montejunto Swing

Highlight • Structure

Initially, @baloicodomontejunto was designed based on drawings by two children, Luana and Isaac, and their father took care of making it real.

After some photos of the children riding the swing were shared, the feedback from friends and acquaintances was enormous and that was when the idea of "improving" the swing as baloiçodomontejunto and making it public came about.

"Unintentionally, a tourist attraction was created that hundreds of families experience every week." Rafael Gregório

Road that connects the village of Abrigada to the Serra de Montejunto, crossing one of the most beautiful sections of the Serra de Montejunto.

A steep route but worth the effort.

Ota River

Highlight • River

It rises in the Montejunto mountain range, passes through the clusters of Eiras, Abrigada, Atouguia, Ota and Aldeia, in the municipality of Alenquer and flows into the right bank of the Tagus river near Vila Nova da Rainha, side by side with the Alenquer river.
Of its layout stands out, in particular, the “Cannon” of the Ota river valley, which presents geomorphological characteristics of the greatest relevance at a national level.
