Steep Descent Trail, Triglav National Park

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

From a distance, this spot looks difficult but it's really quite easily managed if you take your time. The drop is steep but there are cables bolted to the rock and there may be places where you have to lower yourself on your rear end but it's worth it. Be attentive to the scree all the way down as the footing becomes "sporty" in places. There are beautiful flowers on the lower side once the path becomes more level.

The hut stands between the Double Triglav Lake and the Močivec artificial lake under the Tičarica wall. The first hut was built on the present site in 1880 by the Austrian Tourist Club. In 1919 it was taken over by the SPD and later considerably repaired. After the Second World War, he managed the PD Ljubljana-matica hut; in 1955 it was considerably enlarged, re-equipped and a small hydroelectric power plant was built by the artificial lake, which is now out of operation. Due to the large number of visitors, the hut became too small, so PD Ljubljana-matica decided to enlarge and modernize it. Work began in 1986, and the enlarged and modernized cottage was ceremoniously opened on September 25, 1988. In 1990, a log cabin was arranged and thermally insulated next to the cottage, in which there is a winter room with beds, but without a stove. On the rock by the lake is a memorial plaque to Alojzije Knafelc (1859-1937), a long-time owner of the hut, a mountaineering activist and the father of the red and white mountain markings. In 1993, they turned on a cell phone. The cottage is open from late June to early October.

Views:

From the hut there is a beautiful view, especially of the surrounding mountains. On the east side, the walls of Tičarice rise nearby; behind Dvojno jezero we see in the southeast part of the Lower Bohinj Mountains; on the western side of the valley is the lower part of the ridge, which stretches from Prehodavci to the mountain Pod Kalom with peaks Kal, Vrh Škrila, Glava za bajto and Čelo, to the north in the ridge Plaski Vogel and Veliko and Malo Špičje, and on the other side of the valley Kopica and Zelnarici.
