The 32-hectare Julianenpark is one of the historic parks in Leer, created and designed by the von Wedel family of counts. Count von Wedel, the then owner of the Evenburg castle, named the new park in honor of his daughter-in-law, Julia. A key intention in the park's creation was timber harvesting, and thus, it initially developed into a park-like forest with walking paths.
