This forest is typical of the Ammerland park landscape with heavy soil and predominantly oak forest.
The oak continues to shape our culture today, from the typical willow post to the many half-timbered oak farmhouses and the Ammerland rush chair.
Since 2018, the western Herrenholz on both sides of the old church path has been left to develop naturally. The oak and beech trees, which are up to 180 years old, are no longer used. In the long term, a small jungle will emerge with all phases of aging and decay.
