It was in 1732 that “a Royal earthenware factory” was established in the small town of Samadet, which produced earthenware with rich and colorful decorations for more than 100 years.
The factory will employ a workforce with specialized know-how and its production will be widely distributed, notably through the port of Bayonne. But, in 1838, the Manufacture could not resist the competition and closed its doors. The museum, created in 1968 by the Earthenware Committee and given to the Department in 1998, preserves the memory of this epic; it tells the history of Samadet earthenware and that of tableware.
