Clan MacRae Monument

Highlight • Monument

Situated adjacent to each other the Clan Macrae Monument commemorates the men of the clan who fell at the Battle of Sheriffmuir, 1715. The smaller Cairn commemorates the battle itself and is inscribed  "On this moor on 13 November 1715, a Jacobite army composed largely of Highlanders under the command of the Earl of Mar met a Hanoverian army consisting mainly of regular British soldiers under the Duke of Argyll, at what has become known as the Battle of Sheriffmuir".

Old Glen Road Bridge Over Wharry Burn

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

This is a peaceful tree lined route which changes with the seasons and after heavy rain can be cascading with swollen burns and streams.

Eventually you will come to the narrow, stone built bridge over the Wharry Burn, which cascades down from Sherrifmuir into the River Allan. Take a vertigo inducing look over the side but don't lean over too far .

Mine Wood

Highlight • Forest

The Mine Wood was formerly owned by the Westerton Estate and was purchased by Bridge of Allan Burgh Council to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The network of paths which run through the wood were laid out in the mid 19th Century by Sir James Alexander of Westerton and built by local unemployed labourers. The paths were restored under a Job Creation scheme in 1982 and have recently been improved.

There are many Broadleafs including Wych Elm, Oak, Beech, Birch and Sycamore - the Conifers include Larch, Scots Pine, Spruce, Douglas Fir and Western Hemlock. You can see wood pigeons, chaffinches, jays, wood-peckers, rabbits and grey squirrels. If you are lucky, you might spot roe deer.

Manor Powis Road

Highlight • Cycleway

Ex road now used exclusively for cycling, so no traffic other than the few people who live in few lovely old fashioned homes. You will cycle this going to and from Stirling on the Clackmannanshire side (East side). Apparently, the reason for the Welsh name in Central Scotland is that the Romans bought some Welsh labourers there to help build the things like the Antonine wall. The Welsh labourers named the area with this name. Pleasant wee place to cycle through.
