Buchs–Vaduz Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

Buchs-Vaduz low-speed bridge over the Rhine
Pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Rhine, which, as part of the completion of the bicycle network with a direct connection between the two locations, connects the banks of the river between the cities of Buchs (SG) and Vaduz (FL).
The bridge is designed as a single beam that rests on two intermediate piles arranged in the river bed. The product, which weighs 250 tons, is made of COR-TEN steel, the surface of which is covered with a natural protective layer after normal oxidation, which does not require regular surface treatments. The parapets, on the other hand, were made of stainless steel and completed with a wooden handrail.
The 3 box-shaped sections that make up the bridge were welded and sealed on the river bed and then laid with the help of a 500 tonne wheel crane.
The installation, which was carried out in the winter season, was not hindered by the Rhine, so we were able to continue the work without delay.
With a total cost of CHF 4.9 million, the order for the steel structure amounts to CHF 1.8 million.
The inauguration of the plant on an international level took place on schedule at the end of June.
Technical characteristics
Length over 150 m, box profile with variable heights between 650 and 1200 mm in COR-TEN steel, railing made of stainless steel; Total weight 250 tons.
Opening of the new pedestrian and bicycle traffic bridge Saturday, June 29, 2019
