View from Puerto de la Morcuera

Highlight • Viewpoint

The really important thing is the port of La Morcuera itself, and not so much the parking that is just before the crown, although the views are great from there.
The Morcuera pass is a mountain pass at 1,796 meters above sea level. It is the third highest port in the Community of Madrid next to Fuenfría, which we have also crowned on occasion.
From the top you can see the entire Madrid plain if we look south, while if we do it in other directions we will see peaks of more than 2,000 meters such as Cabezas de Hierro and La Najarra.

Fuente Cossío

Highlight • Monument

The Fuente Cossío is a monument built in two different types of granite. It was inaugurated in 1932 by Julián Besteiro as a tribute to Manuel Bartolomé Cossío, a professor at the Institución Libre de Enseñanza and a great lover of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
The disappointment we received upon arrival was important, not so much because of the appearance of the fountain (majestic in the middle of a meadow and with beautiful views) but because of the low flow of its only jet. In winter time water gushes out, but in summer the snowfields in the area have melted and the flow drops until it is reduced to little more than a trickle.
