The Haute-Sûre valley is classified as a wetland of international importance, and the Anlier forest massif is the largest deciduous forest in Belgium. The Haute-Sûre Forêt d’Anlier Natural Park is the combination of these two exceptional natural sites. Rare and remarkable species such as the May orchid, the marsh lousewort and the cotton grass grow here.

Former town of the slate located halfway between Bastogne and Arlon, along the N4 and on the border with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Here is the national monument of the "Chasseurs Ardennais" created in 1952 and a French monument, the chapels Saint Donat (1712) and Saint Nicolas (1878) and the church Saint Martin (1722); at Grumelange, the old farms (1684) and a chapel (1700); at Radelange, a chapel (1766) and a church (1860). The forest of Anlier and the valley of the Sûre are two natural treasures to discover, as is the Belvédère.

Strainchamps Station

Highlight • Historical Site

The village, which has probably existed since Roman times, was occupied by the lords of Sorfeld (Strainchamps), a noble family whose oldest representative is Arnold de Sorfeld, a gentleman at the court of King John the Blind of Bohemia. The seigniory is still present until 1538, when Strainchamps was attached to the provostship of Bastogne.
The prosperous period was that of the Austrian regime.
During the Second World War, on May 10, 1940, the day of the outbreak of the 18-day campaign, the Germans of the 2nd Panzer Division sought to seize the village in the afternoon but they came up against the defense of the elements of the 5th company of the 1st Ardennes Chasseurs regiment relying on forts and a T-13 light armored vehicle. Tanks, infantry and German artillery eventually push the defenders to fall back around 5:30 p.m., after almost four hours of resistance.
When the communes merged in 1977, Strainchamps passed from the commune of Hollange to that of Fauvillers.

Sûre River

Highlight • River

The Sûre (Sauer in Luxembourgish and German) is a Belgian-German-Luxembourgish river and a tributary on the left bank of the Moselle. It is therefore part of the Rhine watershed.
The river gets its name from the acidity of its water.
