The Mushroom

Highlight • Other

It's one of the most iconic and photographed stones in the Huelgoat forest.
The shape is a textbook example of a pedestal rock or "rock mushroom", where the softer lower part erodes faster than the upper portion.
Despite its delicate look, it's stable — though it looks like it might topple any moment.

Kerampeulven Menhir

Highlight • Other

Erected in the Neolithic between - 5,000 years and - 2,300 years, the menhir of Kerampeulven is 6 meters high. Which is already impressive in itself.

What is more remarkable is the presence of the tumulus of Berriou in the town of Berrien where this stone is also located.

According to an interesting archaeological hypothesis menhirs and tumulus (or Dolmens) would be linked. Some believe that the alignments of standing stones would be paths that would lead the dead from dolmen to dolmen, as they progressed through the realm of the afterlife. This remains a difficult theory to prove because in the Neolithic era writing was not yet invented, and there is no evidence to support this. At most we see the presence of the two emblematic monuments of Brittany very often going together.

Kerampeulven means "the village of the menhir".

Oppidum of Camp d'Artus

Highlight • Historical Site

Since the 3rd century BC this place was settled by Celts and later conquered by Caesar's troops. Today there isn't much left to remind of it: A hill in the north and some dolmens in the south of the clearing where according to legend Arthur lived (when he wasn't sleeping in his cave).

Trembling Rock

Highlight • Natural Monument

This monolith, 7 meters long and weighing more than 137 tons, seems to be balanced. It attracts many people who try to make it move.

Many people try it, which gives rise to as many hesitations as to whether the stone moves or not under the action of man. Which remains very difficult to prove. For my part, I did not manage to shake it a millimeter the last time I tried it.
