Rochdale Canal at Hebden Bridge

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Rochdale canal crosses the Pennines from Manchester to Sowerby Bridge. It's 31 miles and has 91 locks!
It's a useful walking path, connecting towns with wilder trails and providing a beautiful and accessible trail for all.

Nice little village. Try and get a parking spot coming down the hill into the village (next to all the other cars) as they only have small carparks which you pay for.

Sunny Bank Ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

Lovely view of The Valley and Heptonstall in the Background. The stones from the ruin make a nice spot to sit and rest when the ground is wet.

Lumb Falls

Highlight • Waterfall

The poet Ted Hughes (writer of The Iron Giant amongst many others) used to play and swim here as a child. It's a deep pool underneath a small waterfall. Lumb falls is a popular place for locals to swim when the weather's hot, and its somewhat remote location means that (excepting seriously hot days) it's relatively quiet. The water, while refreshing, can also be very cold!

Hebden Old Bridge

Highlight • Historical Site

Grade 2 listed. Dates from about 1510, with various repairs and embellishments over the centuries. Plaques record the repairs of 1602 and 1657. Good place for feeding the ducks.
