Kuhtrift Trail

Highlight • Trail

The route seems to lead to an impassable section here. A path cannot be seen. This is due to various fallen trees that make the route impassable. There is no alternative route. Here you have to have good shoes and make your way through the thicket.

Naugarten Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

In 1543 a church in Naugarten is mentioned for the first time as a daughter church to Mater Boitzenburg. Since the nuns in Boitzenburg previously had patronage, Naugarten should already have had a church. Like many other churches in the Uckermark, it will date from the 13th century. Like many other churches, the small stone church was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and lay desolate. The reconstruction of the remains of the old church took place in 1713.

The small village of Naugarten is located in the “Uckermärkische Seen” nature park on the edge of the Zerweliner Heide. Mentioned for the first time on January 1st, 1239 in connection with the sale of land, its original name - novo grad - indicates an earlier Slavic settlement. A special feature is the easily comprehensible village of Naugarten as an anger village with well-preserved farms opposite the many manor villages. Already at the entrance to the village, a former castle wall, clearly recognizable in the landscape, indicates the Slavic origins of Naugarten. On its west side is the Schlossberg, on which the manor owners Borke von Kerkows used to live.
