Lough Bray Parking Area

Highlight • Parking

At a small parking spot along the Old Military Road, you are exactly at the point where the road meets the edge of the plateau and the landscape suddenly opens up towards Upper Lough Bray. From here, you look out over a deep, perfectly oval mountain bowl with steep granite walls and dark turf slopes that descend almost vertically to the water. The location provides a rugged, windy, and completely open mountain feel, enhanced by the narrow, slightly rough asphalt strip of the historic military route. The panorama is one of the most dramatic in the northern Wicklow Mountains: empty, silent, and impressive, with a view that immediately makes you feel like you are in the high mountains, despite the proximity of Dublin.
