Grand Ducal Water Mill

Highlight • Monument

Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm had Mecklenburg's largest watermill at that time built in 1894 by his chief architect Adolf Prahst on the Warnow. It was initially driven by two undershot water wheels; a steam engine was added at the beginning of the 20th century.
From 1941 the mill belonged to D. Propp KG, which processed rye and wheat there into flour. Owing to state restrictions, the owners had to give up the business in 1958.
Since then, the technical monument has decayed.
After the reunification, the conversion to a residential complex failed. However, the structure was provisionally secured until the end seemed sealed after the tornado in May 2015. However, a generous financial injection from the monument protection made necessary renovations possible.
Today, the owner is looking for people interested in their mill and hopes that it will be used in a new way that corresponds to the dignity of the monument.

The Bützow-Güstrow Canal is a 14 km long canal in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It connects the city of Güstrow with the Warnow near Bützow and was part of the former Warnow-Nebel waterway. Two locks (clouds and zepelin) ensured that the height difference was 6 m. Their size was based on the Rostock Mühlendamm lock. To

The canal is the remnant of an inland waterway from Rostock to Berlin that was planned and partially realized in the 19th century.
