This route is generally considered difficult. It presents a moderate challenge with diverse terrain, including some steep ascents, particularly towards Tibidabo. Hikers should have a reasonable level of fitness.
The trail is easily accessible from Barcelona via public transport, offering a quick escape into nature. Specific starting points can vary, but many sections are reachable by bus or FGC train lines that serve the Collserola area.
While the trail is well-served by public transport, limited parking may be available in the residential areas near Arrabassada or Vallvidrera. It's advisable to check local parking regulations and availability, especially on weekends, as spaces can be scarce.
The full route, covering Arrabassada to Tibidabo, Vil·la Joana, and Vallvidrera, typically takes around 2 hours and 50 minutes to complete, depending on your pace and stops at points of interest.
You'll encounter a varied terrain, primarily winding through wooded areas with a mix of forested paths, dirt roads, and some paved sections. Parts can be narrow and wild, while others follow quiet streets or the popular Carretera de les Aigües, known for its extensive views.
The trail offers fantastic panoramic views of Barcelona and the Mediterranean Sea. Key landmarks include the historic Vil·la Joana, the iconic Expiatory Church of the Sacred Heart atop Tibidabo, and the Saint Mary of Vallvidrera church. You'll also pass the scenic Vallvidrera Reservoir.
As you hike through the verdant forests of the Collserola Ridge, you might spot local wildlife and flora. Natural features include several springs like Salamander Spring, Font del Canet, Budellera Spring, and Font de Santa Bàrbara, as well as the Torrent de la Budellera.
Spring and autumn are ideal for hiking this trail, offering pleasant temperatures and lush scenery. Summer can be hot, so an early start is recommended, while winter can be cooler but still enjoyable on clear days.
No, there are generally no permits or entrance fees required to hike the trails within the Serra de Collserola Natural Park. However, always respect park regulations, such as staying on marked paths and not disturbing wildlife.
Yes, dogs are generally allowed on the trails within Collserola Natural Park. However, it's important to keep your dog on a leash, especially in areas with wildlife or near other hikers, and to clean up after them.
Yes, this route intersects with several other trails. You'll find yourself on sections of 'De l'Arrabassada al Tibidabo, el Centre d'Informació del Parc, Vil·la Joana i Vallvidrera', 'Passejada per la serra d'en Cardona', and 'Catalunya E18', among others, offering opportunities to explore further.
Yes, particularly around Tibidabo and Vallvidrera, you'll find amenities such as cafes and restaurants. These spots are perfect for a break or a meal before or after your hike, offering local cuisine and refreshments.
@Frank Winkler recommended the destination yesterday when it was already planned for today 😎. For the high holiday we escaped the city today and went to the highest point of Barcelona. @Vocaliese was so kind and let Komoot plan a very nice tour over the Tibidabo, which we really enjoyed today at 21°C in the shade. At the moment there is a drought in the region, which is particularly noticeable in the dry vegetation and the very dusty paths. It's not that noticeable in the city, as there are a lot of sealed areas there, but it was clearly noticeable out here in the national park. Today we met a lot of mountain bikers who cavorted here on various paths with rugged rocks or flat dirt roads. Since I was also n bissl buck on it. 🤩 From the highest point, tower and platform of the church we had a fantastic view in all directions. What is funny here is the contrast between the church itself and the all-round fun park, which was in full operation even on Good Friday. Down, as well as up, we occasionally passed beautiful springs and drinking water dispensers. This saved us from seeing too many apparitions. But at the latest when we came across today's processions back in the city center, the holiday actually overtook us. That was really a very special event.
