In the historic old town, the St. Gangolf church with its defensive tower is a landmark of the city of Hollfeld. The Gangolfsturm with the old tower apartment offers a beautiful all-round view of Hollfeld and the surrounding area.
At the highest point of the all-round fortified Upper City is the landmark of Hollfeld. The fortified church dates from the time of the Walpoten, the oldest lords of Hollfeld. The Gangolfskirche was first mentioned in 1309, but the origin is believed to have been in the 11th century. The 38 meter high defense tower can still be climbed with 104 steps. It has served as a watchtower and dwelling since ancient times, still with a rare rampart with a wooden cornice and a tent roof with a lantern on it. The apse has been preserved from the Romanesque chapel. The Hollfelder Irrglöckchen is housed in the tower. According to legend, the daughters of the bailiff got lost in the thick woods. At night they heard a bell ringing and ran towards it and found their way back home. As a thank you, the Vogt donated a small bell, which is still called a lunatic bell today and is rung every day at 9:45 p.m. The renovated Gangolfskirche has been used as a cultural center since May 2001. Many interesting events take place here. You can also enjoy the wonderful view from the Gangolf Tower. To do this, collect the key from the town hall (during opening hours).

St. Gangolf is an impressive tower. Unfortunately it was not possible to visit the viewing platform. From this exposed location, the view would be fantastic.
