The Duderstadt town hall is one of the most beautiful and oldest in Germany. The building history goes back to 1302. The town hall served merchants as a marketplace and was the center of civic life.
Today it is a cultural center, meeting place and place of education. The visitor can go on a journey of discovery from the cellar vault up to the tower.
The Anreischke shows itself every two hours from the window of the town hall tower, combined with the carillon "My Duderstadt am Brehmestrand".

It is probably one of the oldest town halls in Germany. Once built as a Kophus (department store), it also served as an administration and court building for later generations.
The three-tower timber frame structure made of oak wood rests on a massive base made of light sandstone. The core building was built around 1302, the south wing in 1432, the arbor and the half-timbered house around 1530, the Renaissance staircase in 1673/74. Despite this long construction history, the town hall gives the impression of rare unity and harmony.
Deep within its walls, the town hall still houses the old Ratswein cellar, the torture chamber and other really interesting exhibition areas. Since the final renovation measures in 2011 and 2012, visitors have been able to go on a journey of discovery through this time-honored building over nine floors, from the vault deep in the basement to the top of the tower. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a unique view of the old town of Duderstadt with its small streets and alleys and its brick-red roofs.
At 9, 11, 13, 3, 5 and 7 p.m. the carillon sounds from the west tower of the town hall to the song "Mein Duderstadt on the Brehmestrand of Eichsfeld Kron´ and Zier, it has its heart turned to you, whoever has been in you ..." . During the game, the blue-yellow tower hatch opens and the "arrival" greets the citizens and guests of our city from his tower district.
The guest information and the exhibition in the town hall are open every day.
Mon - Fri 10 a.m. - 4.30 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays Sun 10.00 a.m. - 4.30 p.m.

Duderstadt's town hall is the most important historical secular building in the town.
The three-towered half-timbered structure made of oak was built on the base floor made of solid sandstone. The substructure was built around 1300 as a "couphus" (department store) and is the oldest surviving part of the town hall.
Today, the tourist information office for the town of Duderstadt is located there.
The town hall received its current appearance mainly in the years 1528-1539,
further extensions and conversions followed in the 17th and 18th centuries.
After extensive restoration work and the design of a remarkable exhibition on the building and town history, the town hall is now largely barrier-free for visitors on all levels.

City hall stairs
For the outside staircase to the town hall hall, built in 1534, the wood sculptor Andreas Georg Kersten from Duderstadt created a representative roof in 1673/74, supported by the allegorical figures Mauritius, Justitia and Spes-Caritas. They symbolize the urban self-image of strength, justice, faith and charity.
