    The Hessian House was built by Johannes Hesse in 1620 in the Renaissance style. What is striking about the richly decorated half-timbered building are the figurative corbels in contemporary clothing and a lion's head that support the upper floors above the left sloping corner of the house. The lower Latin inscription documents Johannes Hesse's Lutheran faith.
    It reads: If God is for us, who can be against us.

      The Tabalugahaus
      The Peter Maffay Foundation has been providing disadvantaged children and young people with active stays in nature for several years. Prof. Hans Georg Näder, who grew up in Duderstadt and is the owner of the Ottobock group of companies, had long had the desire to support children "who did not grow up as sheltered" as he did. It developed from this intention and friendship with Peter Maffay Project "shelters for children" in Duderstadt. The resulting Tabalugahaus is a place where children and adolescents can regain their strength in an intact community and relax from their stressful everyday life.

            On the south side of Obere Marktstraße, several magnificent half-timbered buildings stand out. The house at 'Marktstraße 84,' also called the Hessesches Haus (Hesse House) because it was built by Johann Hesse, is a stately four-story building with magnificent carvings, built in 1620 with Renaissance elements.

            The old house has been breathed new life in recent years.

            Professor Hans Georg Näder and Peter Maffay developed the Tabalugahaus here.

            It enables groups of children and young people, together with their caregivers, to stay in Duderstadt for five to ten days. Since August 2016, a child day care center has also found suitable premises in this building.
