Tampereen Kauppahalli is the largest market hall in Northern Europe and was opened in 1901 in the Art Nouveau style. Designed by architect Hjalmar Åberg, it is now a listed building. Local specialties such as mustamakkara and freshly baked bread are particularly popular.
