The tower at the summit of Aavasaksa hill is a 13-meter-high red brick observation tower built in 1969. The tower is open to the public year-round and provides a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape, including the Tornio and Tengeliö rivers. The tower also stands above the historical geodetic measurement point used by Pierre Louis Maupertuis in the 18th century and later by the Struve Geodetic Arc, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Nice picnic spot in the village of Hedenäset, right by Torneträsk. Although you are within sight of residential buildings, nobody has a problem with you pitching your tent. The motto here is even more: Leave no trace! Despite the location on the main road, it is wonderfully quiet here. The spot was recommended to me by villagers and I had some very nice encounters here.

Picnic area with benches/tables between the main road and the Torneträsk river in the village of Hedenäset.
