The tower at the summit of Aavasaksa hill is a 13-meter-high red brick observation tower built in 1969.
The tower is open to the public year-round and provides a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape, including the Tornio and Tengeliö rivers.
The tower also stands above the historical geodetic measurement point used by Pierre Louis Maupertuis in the 18th century and later by the Struve Geodetic Arc, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
