Rantaraitti is a unique recreation and outdoor trail that follows the coastline of Espoo's seashore. Rantaraitti is located in very diverse environments. Its nature varies from the stone ash-surfaced trail running along the edges of the nature reserve to the asphalt-surfaced pedestrian and bike path, or the paved promenade of a modern urban environment. There are also several bridge connections on the Rantarait, most recently a new modern bridge opened in November 2020 as an extension of the Gallen-Kallelantie between Tarvaspää and Tarvo island. The bridge replaced an old, dilapidated pontoon bridge that was demolished. In 2019, Espoo's rantaraitti received an honorable mention in connection with the awarding of the "Accessible Finland" recognition.

Toppelund was parcelled from Grasa manor in 1878. Its owners at the beginning of the 20th Century were the von Julin family. Nowadays, Toppelund is mainly known for the Villa Wahlforss, planned by architect Ville Paatela and built by industrialist Wilhelm Wahlforss 1950-1951. A large garden formed part of the Toppelund property, the produce of which was sold at the market in Helsinki. Transportation was organized by boat. Two harbor basins were built to shield the boats on the open seashore, and two moles to protect them.

The Mellsten stone-built jetty was erected by a villa designed by architect Jarl Eklund in 1927. The road connections to Helsinki were still primitive at this time, and the villas by the seashore in Espoo were dependent on the steamboat traffic along the coast. The summer colony Stella Maris of the Catholic parishes of Helsinki used the villa 1936-1964. The building, subsequently used as a Youth Clubhouse, was destroyed in a fire in 1979. The jetty, originally built in an L-shape, was severely damaged in a bombing attack in February 1944. The aim of the airstrike was probably to disturb the support of the aerial defence searchlight battery in Haukilahti.

the eastern end (Sarvvikin puistotie) is currently a bit of a mess due to district heating works (signposted mystery detour for bikes but just stay on the roadway where it is two lanes and on the bike path where the roadway turns into a single bidirectional lane with traffic lights), just west of there (Finnträskinreuna) it looks like they are turning the narrow access road into a wider street, currently just a lot of trees felled but will probably be another construction site as well
