Beautiful surroundings and park

St. Mary’s Church of Lappee is a unique natural and cultural site of the Saimaa Geopark, located in central Lappeenranta. Built in 1794 by Juhana Salonen, it is the only wooden double cruciform church from the 18th century in Finland. The church is surrounded by an old cemetery and offers insight into traditional craftsmanship and regional history. It's easily accessible by bike via city streets, making it a convenient cultural stop for cyclists.

The Saimaa Canal is a major waterway in southeastern Finland that connects Lake Saimaa, the largest lake in Finland, with the Gulf of Finland near Vyborg in Russia. Stretching approximately 43 kilometres, the canal allows inland vessels to travel between the Saimaa lake system and the Baltic Sea.

A nice bridge with an impressive view of the canal. The cycling roads are separate from the normal roads, making it a safe place to cross the canal without a hassle.

this is the best preserved piece of the original (1850s) canal, the old one is the bendy one to the east and the modern (1960s) one is the straight one to the west (don’t expect seeing any ships there these days though...)

The oldest Russian Orthodox Church in Finland is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was completed in 1785. Opening hours Church is open 8 June - 29 Aug 2021 Tue - Sun at 11 am - 3 pm

The Saimaa Canal is not only pretty to look at, but historically significant. The canal and lock system connected Lake Saimaa, through which the Finnish-Russian border runs, to the Gulf of Finland.
