Virolahti provides essential services and its main attractions include the Virolahti Bunker Museum and the nearby Harju manor, which offer insights into the region's rich history. Additionally, the Virojoki River flows through the town into the Gulf of Virolahti, a bay in the northern part of the Gulf of Finland, which is shared by Finland and Russia.

Miehikkälä, nestled in southeastern Finland, is a captivating destination, offering a blend of rich history and natural beauty. Worth a visit is the Salpa Line Museum which provides an immersive experience into Finland's wartime history, featuring a vast outdoor museum area with bunkers and trenches set amidst rugged forest terrain. Here, you can also find all essential shops and accommodation.

Ylämaa Church, located in the former municipality of Ylämaa (now part of Lappeenranta), was completed in 1931 based on designs by Ilmari Launis. It features detailed interior paintings and engraved glass windows by Antti Salmenlinna, and an altar painting by Väinö Saikko. The church also houses 1940s organs built by Kangasala’s renowned organ factory and a baptismal font made from local Ylämaa spectrolite. Outside, visitors can see a war memorial by sculptor Mikko Hovi. The church sits in a quiet village surrounded by forest roads ideal for trekking or cross bikes, though the terrain can be slightly hilly.

Pitkäkoski Sawmill is the third oldest sawmill site in Finland, originally founded in the 1720s and permanently established in 1738. Over the years, it changed owners several times, becoming an important local employer during the 1940s under Väinö Vuorela. Although sawmill operations ended in the mid-20th century, a mill continued to operate on the site until the 2000s, and the power plant still produces electricity today. The area has historical value and sits near a river and dam, making it a scenic stop for cyclists. For safety reasons, visitors must not enter the "Tammen Bridge" above the dam.

The Virolathi Bunker Museum was opened in 1980 and a visit will give you an insight into the history of the bunker system in this area. While you can read or see a lot about the history in the visitor center, you can experience it first hand in the bunkers in front of it. The museum opens at 10 a.m. and is open until 4 or 6 p.m. depending on the time of year.
