Čerchov, whose German name is "Schwarzkopf", is the highest mountain in the Bohemian Forest. There are two towers and a row of barracks on the summit. One tower is an observation tower built in 1904. The other tower, peppered with listening devices, was used as a reconnaissance post by the Soviets and the Stasi until the fall of the Berlin Wall and later by the Czech army until after 1990. For this reason, it was not permitted to climb to the top of the mountain for a long time. The reconnaissance station is part of a chain of similar listening posts along the German border and continues northwards over Velký Zvon (859 metres), Havran (894 metres) and Dyleň (939 metres).

Small hut with great view over the valley

The Cerchovsteig leads from Waldmünchen over the Lehmgrubenweg hiking border crossing to Cerchov. Right on the border, a shelter with a seating area invites you to take a rest. Clay used to be mined here, the name still reminds us of this and you can still see the mining cuts in the forest.

Beautifully situated hut below the summit. Part of the terrace is already in the Czech Republic.

A very nice historic train station and a good starting point for (border) hikes.

A beautiful hiking area around Ossergipfel and Osserwiese, here you have a wonderful view of the Lamer Winkel and the mountains of the Bavarian Forest. The Osser viewing mountain is known for the fantastic 360 degree view of the Czech Republic, the Bohemian Forest, the nearby Arber and Hoher Bogen mountains, and if the visibility is good, even as far as the Alps.
