The beautifully decorated summit cross can be reached after a short climb 🤗. If the weather is good, you have a beautiful view ☺️.

Strangely, the summit cross is not on top of the summit but a few meters further down

Čerchov, whose German name is "Schwarzkopf", is the highest mountain in the Bohemian Forest. There are two towers and a row of barracks on the summit. One tower is an observation tower built in 1904. The other tower, peppered with listening devices, was used as a reconnaissance post by the Soviets and the Stasi until the fall of the Berlin Wall and later by the Czech army until after 1990. For this reason, it was not permitted to climb to the top of the mountain for a long time. The reconnaissance station is part of a chain of similar listening posts along the German border and continues northwards over Velký Zvon (859 metres), Havran (894 metres) and Dyleň (939 metres).

You have to look for the summit cross a little. It is located below the two large towers, not on the highest point.

Here the summit cross is not at the highest point, but rather slightly below on the side of the path.

Below the former military facility, the summit cross is rather inconspicuous on the left side of the site.

The Havran, in German Großer Rabenberg, is located on the Czech side of the Upper Palatinate Forest. Arriving at the observation tower, you have a magnificent view of the Bohemian Forest and the Upper Palatinate Forest.
