The wooden bell tower in Akmarijp stands in a tree-lined cemetery. The church in Akmarijp was demolished in 1722. In 1844, the remaining tower was demolished and replaced by a bell tower.

Terherne, known as the "Kameleondorp" (Chameleon Village), is an island in the Sneekermeer lake. On one side, you'll find the lake, and on the other, the Terhernster pools.

Akkrum is a pleasant water sports village in the middle of the Frisian lake district, near the Alde Feanen National Park.

I live in Heerenveen myself, but I don't think it's a pleasant village at all. If you want to visit a pleasant city, go to Sneek, Leeuwarden, or one of the other eleven cities.

On the southern shore of Lake Tjeukemeer lies the historic Echten Pumping Station. Built in 1913 to drain the Veenpolder near Echten, the pumping station was designated a protected monument in 2001. After a thorough restoration, it has returned to its former glory. Today, it houses an art gallery. This unique combination of historic pumping station, art, and beautiful scenery makes it a special place to visit.

Good concrete bike path. Very nice along the water.

Jirsum is a small, charming village with a little tourism and corresponding shops and places to eat.
