The JL Hoogland Pumping Station is an electric pumping station located in Stavoren in the Dutch province of Friesland. The building, dating from 1966 and featuring a curved roof, was designed by architect Piet de Vries. The hall houses four screw pumps. The pumping station discharges water from the Frisian reservoir into the IJsselmeer. At 6,000 m3 per minute, the discharge capacity of the JL Hoogland Pumping Station is one and a half times that of the Woudagemaal.

In 1884, the manufacturer Brothers & Co. erected a tall cast-iron lighthouse and two harbor lights at the pier. The two harbor lights still shine today, just as they did then, at the entrance to the old harbor of Stavoren. In 1999, the lighthouse and its associated harbor lights were designated a cultural monument. The lighthouse underwent a complete renovation in 2001. The lighthouse is still operational today. While it is not open to the public, it can be easily seen from the old harbor.

The harbor is beautiful! Watching ships, sitting on a bench, watching the ships, eating ice cream... simply enjoying the time there!

The current Martinikerk in Koudum was built in 1857. This hall church has a two-tiered tower and a constricted spire. Much of the interior comes from the previously demolished 17th-century church.

Laaksum, or Laaxum in Frisian, is a tiny fishing port on Lake IJsselmeer, once known for its flounder and eel fishing. After the construction of the Afsluitdijk in 1932, fishing virtually disappeared. Now, this idyllic spot, with a few houses and a former fish processing shed (now a restaurant), attracts many cyclists and day trippers.

It is worthwhile to step of your bike and watch the "brugwachter" do his job. They collect the fee with a "klomp" wooden shoe on a fishing rod :D
