The Pluizenmeer is a characteristic fen (small lake) nestled in the Renderklippen: a heathland and woodland formed by ice-age moraines. Originally called "Vlasmeertje" (Little Flax Lake), it was quickly nicknamed "Pluizenmeertje" (Little Fluffy Peat Grass) because it is fringed with fluffy bog grass (cotton cotton).

Unfortunately only a short stop in Zwolle, but the city is absolutely worth seeing and also has a lot to offer in terms of museums. If you like to eat vegetarian or vegan and love a good breakfast, "Anne and Max" is recommended.

In the Middle Ages, Elburg was part of the Hanseatic League: an association of merchants and towns to protect and expand trade together. Just like in the other Hanseatic cities, prosperity flourished in Elburg during this time. And you can still see that. Elburg has many buildings from this period, such as the Gruithuis, where beer herbs were traded, and the Vischpoort, a medieval defense tower.

The picturesque Hanseatic port of Elburg is beautifully situated on the marginal seas. The place is tourist-friendly but does not seem as crowded as some other towns (which is certainly different in high season). For me personally, Elburg is the most beautiful place on the Veluwemeer/Drontermeer.
