Huize Assendelft was a small castle or playhouse south of Middelrode. Huize Assendelft was built on the west bank of the Aa and was already mentioned in 1320. At that time people still spoke of the Ten Bergulen farm. In 1512 it was destroyed by the Gelderland troops led by Maarten van Rossum.

To the south of 's-Hertogenbosch lies the Pettelaerse bos and various walking routes pass through it. You cross the Sterrebosch and Oud Herlaer. It is largely on unpaved paths with beautiful vistas, farms and a branch of the Dommel. At Oud Herlaer you can see Castle Maurick in the distance and on the way back to the Pettelaer you have a view of Provinciehuis ''s-Hertogenbosch.

Fort Pettelaar was demolished in July 1672 to prevent a French occupation. A higher site with a special shape, on which a restaurant now stands, is reminiscent of the former fort. The Roman Catholic Institute for the Deaf and Dumb (excusez le mot) is a monumental complex from 1910 in the form of the current complex on Theerestraat, designed by architect J.H.H. from Groenendaal. There it would grow into the largest institute for the deaf in the Netherlands, with hundreds of students. Beautiful park-like grounds with old trees.
