Koningshoeven Abbey can be seen from far away

A beautiful abbey with a lovely terrace serving the famous La Trappe beer. It's also a great place for lunch. There's also a monastery shop on the grounds, selling all sorts of treats and charming souvenirs.

King William II intended to live in this palace. It was built between 1847 and 1849 by contractor Adriaan Goijaerts, based on a design by architect Jan Boon. The king himself laid the foundation stone, but he died three weeks before the building was completed. In 1866, the Rijks HBS Koning Willem II (King William II State High School) was founded in the building. In 1934, the school moved to the Ringbaan Oost (East Ring Road), and the palace was converted into a town hall, designed by architect Oscar Leeuw. The exterior was designed in the Neo-Gothic style, while the luxurious interior is in Art Deco style. In 1936, it was put into use as a town hall. It still serves as a palace-town hall for meetings, weddings, and representation.

In 1849, King William II died in his home in Tilburg, the so-called "old palace" (the current palace-town hall was still under construction at the time). This funeral home fell into disrepair over the years, and in 1872, the heirs decided to demolish it and erect a monument in its place. On March 17, 1874, 25 years after William II's death, a bluestone commemorative spire, designed by Tilburg architect H.J. van Tulder (1819-1903), was unveiled. In 1968, the commemorative spire had to be removed due to the construction of the "City Ring." Like the monument by Mgr. Zwijsen, it was dismantled and stored pending a new installation. After years of storage, the commemorative spire was in such poor condition that the municipality decided against restoration for financial reasons. The Junior Chamber Hart van Brabant then launched a plan to erect a completely new memorial. The Willem II monument on the Heuvel in Tilburg represents King Willem II of the Netherlands. It was unveiled in The Hague in 1854, but sold in 1924 and moved to Tilburg, where Willem lived for part of his life.
