In the era of high romanticism (1804-1818), the children's and household tales of the brothers Jacob (1785-1863) and Wilhelm (1786-1859) Grimm were created in 1812 and 1815. Along the German Fairy Tale Route, to which Rehburg-Loccum has belonged since 2019, fairy tales and legends are told and brought to life. In the 18th and early 19th centuries, strolling along the promenade paths in the Rehburg mountains was part of a spa stay in Bad Rehburg. In cooperation with forest owners and the Lower Saxony State Forests, as well as with the support of the State of Lower Saxony and EU funds, the town of Rehburg-Loccum was able to create a Brothers Grimm fairy tale trail along the historic promenades from the Romantic period (1795-1848), on which fairy tales and legends come "to life" with wooden fairy tale figures. The St. Katharinen Church in Bergkirchen is one of the medieval and therefore oldest churches in the regional church. The Romanesque nave was built in the 12th century; other parts of the cruciform hall church were built in the Gothic style in several periods from west to east. In addition to the baptismal font donated by Count Hermann of Holstein-Schaumburg in 1622, the pulpit from 1684 and the organ built in 1716, a sandstone epitaph of the Drost of Sachsenhagen, who died in 1563, adorns the chancel. The church, which can be seen from far away, is located in the north of Schaumburg on the ridge of the Rehburg Mountains. The unique location on the mountain ridge allows for wide views in all directions: to the north to the Steinhuder Meer, to the east and west to the forest-covered hills of the Düdinghäuser Berg and the Rehburg Mountains and to the south far into the Weserbergland. On the other hand, the ridge with its characteristic silhouette can be seen from far away.
