The Heisterburg in the Deister was a rampart castle from the 10th to 11th century near the Lauenau district of Feggendorf. It is located half in the area of the Nenndorf collective municipality and half in the town of Rodenberg in Lower Saxony. The complex is located in a forest area at the northwestern end of the Deister. It is located near the mountain ridge at about 330 meters above sea level in a depression between two flat elevations. The fortification is on the former border between the medieval districts of Bukkigau and Marstemgau. Today it is on the border between the town of Rodenberg and the Bad Nenndorf collective municipality as well as the border of the Hanover region and the Schaumburg district. Apparently the complex was still called Hoyer, Hoysburg or Hoiesburg in the 16th century. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heisterburg

On the 100th birthday of Kaiser Wilhelm I on March 22, 1897, an imperial oak was also planted in the Fuchsbach valley near Barsinghausen. The local Landwehr warriors' association had a small monument erected at the foot of the oak. The Fuchsbach was dammed here in the 17th century to form a "trout pond" to regulate water in the coal mining industry. On the other bank of the stream from the imperial oak is the mouth of the "Lower Sammann Tunnel" built in 1831. After it was taken over by the Prussian state in 1875, it was only used to ventilate the tunnel system opened up by the Barsinghausen monastery tunnel. When the memorial stone was built in 1897, a small artificial waterfall was also built on the Fuchsbach near the imperial oak. Kaiser Wilhelm Square was a popular excursion destination for Barsinghausen residents around the turn of the century in 1900. In 2022 there will be a shelter as well as benches and seating areas between the Kaisereiche and the trout pond. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaisereiche_(Barsinghausen)

A shelter and fresh spring water invite you to rest. A memorial stone commemorates the 10th Pioneer Battalion. A water intake point was built in 1937/38. It was named Böss-Quelle, probably after the forester Bössenroth who worked here.

The radio tower is located right next to the Heisterburg on the Rodenberger Höhe (332 m). There are also two huts underneath it.

The Heisterburg is located on the Deister ridge on an old border - today between the Hanover region and the Schaumburg district as well as the town of Rodenberg and Bad Nenndorf. It is a rampart castle that dates back to the 10th to 11th centuries. The Heisterburg consists of a smaller main castle and an outer castle that covers a larger area. The castle ramparts are still well preserved. There are no written records of the Heisterbug. Ceramic finds inside the castle point to the 10th century. However, archaeologists have also found evidence of larger stone buildings inside the castle. This speaks against the theory of a refuge castle; an early noble family may have once lived here. Very good starting point for all kinds of outdoor activities in the Deister, e.g. to the Teufelsbrücke, Rodenberger Höhe or Kreuzbuche. The Mooshütte is also not far from here.

In October 1998, the Mooshütte was purchased by the Flügge family from Schmarrie, who had been interested in the building for some time and were in negotiations with the previous owner. They immediately set about renovating the property. On May 1, 1999, the Mooshütte opened its doors as a restaurant for day-trippers and hikers. Since then, the Mooshütte has enjoyed its traditionally lively popularity. In the middle of 2000, the hotel complex in the rear part of the property was rebuilt and lovingly furnished. In 2003, construction and investment continued. To the right of the front, the mountain was removed and a new section was added. This part now houses the entrance area, the sanitary wing and a closed passage to the hotel complex. The old hall was completely rebuilt and expanded by demolishing the old toilets. In 2006, the playground was expanded and redesigned. In the same year, a winter garden was added and the bar area was opened up to the beer garden side. In 2007, the second winter garden was added. This extension is designed so that the hall can be connected to it if necessary and offers our guests additional space to feel comfortable. In 2009, the planning and implementation of a newly designed entrance area continued. Additional coziness was created by adding a fireplace room and a farmhouse parlor. The beer garden was not neglected for the most beautiful time of the year either. It was completely redesigned and equipped with rustic furniture and lamps. Source: https://www.mooshuette.de/chronik/
