Tongelaar Castle is a medieval castle complex that, in its current form, incorporates elements from various periods. The castle stands on a strategic elevation and is surrounded by water features and old farmstead structures that are part of the historic estate. It was first mentioned in the 14th century and has been renovated and fortified several times since then. The buildings, courtyard, and moats clearly reflect its former fortified function and later agricultural role within the estate. Today, the castle serves as a visitor center and restaurant, with views of the surrounding lanes and fields.

Gemert Castle is one of the village's most striking historical buildings. The complex dates back to the 13th century and was owned for centuries by the Teutonic Order, which had its commandery here. Because of this long history, you'll find a mix of architectural styles on the grounds: medieval elements, an impressive gateway, later residential wings, and a moat that encircles the entire complex. The castle itself is not freely accessible, but from the road and surrounding paths, you have a beautiful view of the walls, towers, and gatehouse. The surrounding area is charming, with old tree-lined avenues, water features, and historic outbuildings that complete the setting. It's a pleasant place for walkers to stop and take a photo or soak up the tranquil atmosphere around the moat.

The castle is currently being renovated. A 5-star Hilton hotel is being built. There will be apartments for sale (starting at €1 million). The restaurant GEM, featuring Michelin-starred chef Soenil Bahadoer, recently opened. Everything is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

The path that takes you to the ruins of the Genneperhuis and through the nature reserve towards bridges, ravelin and Het Theehuisje in Milsbeek is partly provided with pollard willows on both sides. But be sure to read the many information boards that are also on the road over a longer distance and tell you a lot about what is here, has been and especially has happened.

Boxmeer has a number of unique sights, including the Karmelklooster. The Carmelite Monastery in Boxmeer was built between 1653 and 1709. The monastery was founded by Albrecht van den Bergh and Madeleine de Cusance, lord and lady of Boxmeer. The former had to do with both the Catholic Spanish Southern Netherlands and the Protestant Republic of the United Netherlands. To strengthen his own sovereignty over Boxmeer in this tightrope walk between the two powers, he built the monastery.

Nice little old town

Boxmeer has a number of sights that are more than worth a visit. In the center of Boxmeer you will find more about the rich history of silversmiths and the special traditional canal as well as beautiful monumental buildings. Just outside the shopping center you will find a unique castle with a museum and chapel and a special lock complex.
